[TIP OF THE DAY
PROBLEM: In Microsoft Office 2000 the Save As and Open dialog boxes each have a column of icons down the left side featuring shortcuts to handy folders like History, Favorites, and Desktop.
You want to create shortcuts to folders of your own choosing.
SOLUTION: Microsoft did not provide a built-in interface to customize the shortcuts that appear on the Places Bar.
There's a Microsoft Knowledgebase article on how to have up to 10 custom-defined shortcuts ( http://cgi.zdnet.com/slink?38184:5052569 ), but unlike most Registry hacks this one goes beyond changing an existing value or removing a key.
As an alternative, check out Mike Craven's utility for customizing the Office 2000 Places Bar. The free WOPR 2000 Place Bar Customizer lets you specify new user-defined folder locations and supports a Show Small Icons mode that adds five additional user-definable places to the Places Bar. It's available free at http://cgi.zdnet.com/slink?38185:5052569 .
